HOT NEWS! Yesterday at the California Lions Convention, Seal Beach was awarded the top award for membership growth and won the Academy Award for the most outstanding service project – Our FISH FRY!!!! – Pictures on Facebook


Seal Beach Lions Club WEEKLY ROAR February 6-12

Eisenhower Park Bench Refurbishment: Saturday, Feb. 11th 10am – 12noon
Last year our club completely refurbished all 22 benches in Eisenhower Park and at the Pier entrance. We will conduct annual maintenance on the teak wood by sanding and oiling the benches. Wear old clothes J Meet at the pier or just look for the working Lions. This is a great project for our newer Lions – no experience necessary – guests welcome! Service Project: Pony Baseball Opening Day BBQ: February 11, 2012
Lions and Leos will once again offer up a BBQ lunch for all of the attendees at Seal Beach Pony Baseball’s opening day festivities. McGaugh School Ball Fields, 10am – 3pm. NEED HELP WITH SET UP 9am at the Lions Garage. See Lion Tim Kelsey to sign up. Timkelsey28@gmail.com

Environmental Service Project: Tree Planting Initiative
Lions International President Tam challenged Lions worldwide to plant at least one million trees during this Lions year. Our club has planted 6 large trees in Zoeter Park but we are looking to plant many more in and around Seal Beach. If you have planted a tree since July – in or around Seal Beach – please contact Lion Laura Ellsworth. If you plan on planting a tree, please contact Laura. And if you know someone who wants a tree, please contact Laura. Our goal is to get at least 50 trees planted by March 30th. (laura@companybooks.com)

SB Lions: Student Speaker Contest: Wednesday, February 15th: 6:45pm
Come see the best speakers at Los Alamitos High School as they compete in the Lions Student Speaker Contest. This is OUR club’s contest. No cost – no food. Mary Wilson Library, 6:45pm (Doors locked at 7pm). Chair: Lion Adriana Ziegenbusch adyhomecare@yahoo.com

Note: The speakers contest is in place of the regular Lions meeting. The doors closes at 7pm so don’t be late. No food or drink at this meeting.

Lions Teen Recognition Program: Sunday, February 26th: 2pm – 4pm

Hearing Aid Recycling – March is Lions Hearing Month
Did you know that we recycle Hearing Aids through the Lions District 4L4 Hearing Aid Bank. They can be deposited into any of our 12 eyeglass recycling receptacles or you can bring them to a Lions meeting. Lion Cathy Newton can also make arrangements to pick them up. Zone Meeting & Student Speaker Contest: Mary Wilson Library, Thursday March 1st (Proud Lion Task Opportunity)
At 6pm, a ZONE meeting will be held with the clubs in our immediate area. This is a good opportunity to see what other clubs are up to. The meeting will last approximately 30 minutes. At 7pm, the winner from our Student Speaker Contest will speak against the winners from other club contests in our zone. Location: Mary Wilson Library, 707 Electric Ave, Seal Beach. This is a ‘no meal meeting’ (*** It is important that everyone is in the room by 7pm – the doors will be locked and no late comers are allowed)

Ensenada, Mexico Lions Club Visitation and CRUISE! March 2nd – 5th

We are visiting the Ensenada, Mexico Lions Club on Saturday, March 3rd where we will present them donations and hear about the good things they are doing in their community. Region Meeting & Student Speaker Contest: LA HABRA, Tuesday, March 13th

Designated Driver Service Project, Sat, March 17th from 12noon to 1am
This is our 11th year of providing free rides home from Main Street for those who maybe had a bit too much to drink on St. Patrick’s Day. We use rented vans, set up a command post next to Walt’s, and have a great time people watching all day long. Food and drinks will be provided throughout the day. This meeting is also our charitable giving night where we present donations to a few guests and highlight our giving program for the year.

Seal Beach Health Faire, Eisenhower Park, Sat, March 24th from 10am–3pm

Visitation: Huntington Beach Lions Crabfest, Sunday, March 25th
This annual fundraiser for the Huntington Beach Lions Club is a great deal of fun and is well attended by our club. Cost is $45 per person and includes all the crab you can eat. Seal Beach Leos will be your waiters and waitresses for the evening at Old World Restaurant – 7561 Center Ave. – Hunt Beach - near Bella Terra. Deadline for ticket purchases is March 15th.
